James Coburn Obituary

James Douglas “Doug” Coburn, 67 of Paonia, Colorado, formerly of Ohio County, Kentucky, gained his eternal wings on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was born on September 15, 1956 in Huntingburg, Indiana to the late Chester Morris Coburn and Joann Taylor Funk. Doug was a 1974 graduate of Ohio County High School and a graduate of Sullivan University where he earned a degree in Culinary Arts.

Doug did not have an enemy, he believed that everyone who crossed his path was a friend. Doug could play a BB gun guitar that would rival the likes of Creedence. He would often entertain his grandkids by teaching them how to make a duck call out of a beer cap. If anyone wanted to cook a meal you could bet that Doug would have an opinion about how you did it. When Doug wasn’t in the kitchen you could find him on the couch with his “girls” (3 chihuahua cross dogs) watching a Kentucky basketball game with Toni by his side as they competed in their online bets.

He leaves behind to cherish many memories, the love of his life of 20 years, Toni Holgate Coburn of Paonia, Colorado; five daughters, Sheridan Coburn of Grand Junction, Colorado, Christa Coats of Grand Junction, Colorado, Ellie (Tim) Westover of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Cassidy (Mike) Lord of Athens, Georgia and Kara (Josh) Kennick of Hotchkiss, Colorado; three siblings, Kim (John Paul) May of Hartford, David (Renee) Coburn of Hartford and Clay (Kelly) Coburn of Beaver Dam; his Step-Mom, Dortha “Dot” Coburn of Owensboro and his lifelong friend, Kenny (Susie) Newcom of Beaver Dam. Doug was blessed with several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 21, 2024 at William L. Danks Funeral Home in Beaver Dam. Friends may visit with Doug’s family from 10 A.M. until the time of the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
